How Long Will It Take To Sell My House In Peterborough?
Conveyancing Posted 30 December 2025Selling your house is a huge decision to make. It is really exciting. However, it can be very stressful too. One of the questions you may be wondering early on is how long it will take to sell your house in Peterborough. We don’t have a crystal ball here at Burgh Thorpe Solicitors in Peterborough. However, we have enough property conveyancing experience to be able to give you a rough idea.
So, if you are wondering how long it will take to sell your house in Peterborough, then this is the blog post for you.
Generally speaking, the time from putting your house on the market until handing over the keys to the buyer can take between 3 and 6 months on average.
This rough guideline of 3-6 months includes the pre-listing stage. This takes 1-4 weeks and is known as the time for preparation. It is when you get valuations for your home, choose an estate agent and prepare your home for potential buyers and viewings. You will also need to instruct a property solicitor or conveyancer at this stage too.
Your home will then be on the market for 4-12 weeks on average., However, this is highly variable dependent on the price and type of property, the local market and more. The market conditions, asking price and presentation of your home will greatly affect how long it takes to find a buyer and accept their offer.
Once a buyer has been found and the offer has been accepted it is time to complete the Exchange of Contracts. This is where most of the legal conveyancing work takes place. Having your conveyancer primed and ready means that delays can be avoided at this point. This part of the house sale process can take between 8 and 16 weeks. It is where the draft contract is issued. The buyer arranges their mortgager and for the survey to be completed. Our conveyancing solicitors will carry out the conveyancing and local searches required. There may also be some negotiations that arise at this point too. Again, our conveyancers can support you with this.
Finally, we move onto the Exchange and Completion. This part of the process takes between 1 and 4 weeks. It is where contracts are exchanged. At this point the deal becomes legally binding. Completion Day is when money changes hands and the keys are released to the buyer.
This is a rough guideline of how long you can expect it to take to sell your home in Peterborough. If you have any queries or concerns, please call our local property conveyancers.
